APRIL 2007
Bourbon and a Cuban
Tuesday 17 April 2007
The Restaurant Courtyard - The Horse and Trap, 3 Enfield Street, Mt Eden, Auckland
Sponsored by Village Winery and Havana House.
We enjoyed a range of fine American traditional Bourbons, the way the Americans would love to - with a fine Cuban cigar. We enjoyed the following tastes
- Starting with Jack Daniels Tennessee Sour Mash, we discussed this popular spirit being commonly mistaken as a bourbon. Comparing the tastes with some great bourbons really demonstrated the difference.
- Second in the glass was Bulliet Bourbon - http://www.bulleitbourbon.com/flash/, This was a very enjoyable drop and well received after the JD's.
- Third was Woodford Reserve - http://www.woodfordreserve.com/Default.aspx. This was the pick of the night with smooth flavours and pleasant aroma.
- Last was Wild Turkey Rare Breed - http://www.wildturkeybourbon.com/flock/bottxt6.htm. At 54% the alcohol did over power the flavours a little. A different experience than the Woodford
Pick of the night: Woodford Reserve (middle of the photo)
Due to NZ tobacco regulations we cannot discuss the cigar of the night (A great Cuban Robusto) in this forum. We recommend you be there on the night or become a member to receive a review.
